Every science begins as philosophy and ends as art; it arises in hypothesis and flows into achievement.
Will Durant
Art as therapy
I love the idea of art being therapeutic. This explanation is art in itself.
Life is sometimes hard. Things go wrong, in life and in love and in business and in friendship and in health and in all the other ways that life can go wrong. And when things get tough, this is what you should do.
Make good art.
I’m serious. Husband runs off with a politician? Make good art. Leg crushed and then eaten by mutated boa constrictor? Make good art. IRS on your trail? Make good art. Cat exploded? Make good art. Somebody on the Internet thinks what you do is stupid or evil or it’s all been done before? Make good art. Probably things will work out somehow, and eventually time will take the sting away, but that doesn’t matter. Do what only you do best. Make good art.
Neil Gaiman
I read Bittersweet recently which I didn’t really get, except for the parts about transforming suffering into art…
Most of all, bittersweetness shows us how to respond to pain: by acknowledging it, and attempting to turn it into art, the way the musicians do, or healing, or innovation, or anything else that nourishes the soul.

My art
Writing is my favorite art form. Processing and distilling some idea into a coherent piece of writing.
I do a bit of visual art from time to time. I like hand lettering, especially digital. I’ve done acrylic painting, also have experimented with alcohol ink art pieces more recently.
