A few of my posts might sound like advice. They are – although they are advice to myself!

There was this catchy song when I was a teenager that had some advice on advice that I always seem to find myself remembering with a smile. The song actually uses an essay written as a hypothetical commencement speech by Mary Schmich as the lyrics.

Here’s the part about advice:

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it

Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth
